The Bonner Leaders Program

    The Bonner Leaders program was developed by Widener in partnership with the Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Foundation to develop the change agents of our time. Our leaders not only graduate with a degree, but also benefit from transferrable workforce skills including four years of work experience in the nonprofit sector, intensive leadership training, and a drive to make an impact in our local to global communities. 

    Bonner Leaders are placed in an internship-level volunteer position with one of our Chester non-profit partners. They also participate in customized, experiential learning opportunities designed to make them stand out as civic leaders, social justice agents and active global citizens.  

    The Bonner Leaders Scholarship totals $5,000 per year for a total of eight consecutive semesters. The following are the scholarship requirements: 

    • Incoming freshman student enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in the day program

    • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 

    • Participate in service at assigned placement and leadership trainings and events planned by the Bonner Program totaling at least 250 hours per year 

    • Follow the standards of behavior expected of all members of the Widener University community as stated in the student code of conduct 

    • Participate in all required Bonner leadership programming, including weekend volunteering/retreats, yearly academic projects, the first-year pre-orientation program, senior international service trip, and other varied experiences
